Spring area sees boom in housing developments

New housing communities are sprouting in Spring to keep up with a growing area workforce.

Several high-end apartment communities and housing developments are under construction as 10,000 new employees are expected to start work soon at Exxon Mobil Corp.’s new 385-acre Spring campus. Southwestern Energy Co., one of the largest producers of natural gas in the United States, also opened its new headquarters in the area.

Waterford Springs apartment community at 24530 Gosling Road will be complete in March. The community, which will have 308 units, is a quarter complete and is currently leasing and preleasing units. It is 12 percent occupied.

“More of our product is coming online this month and we will fill up as we move further along in construction,” said manager Amber Hopkins.

Hopkins said several Exxon employees have already moved in there and expects more as the community is complete.

“We are about seven to nine miles from the Exxon campus,” she said.
